Awareness

I often say awareness is the most important factor when it comes to health. Those who are aware have all the ammunition they need in order to make changes. The choice is then up to the individual.

Those who aren’t aware must first gain awareness in order to create change. The sad part is some people go long periods of time without being aware.

Let me give you an example. If you aren’t aware you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol you don’t have the ammunition to make changes. If you aren’t aware that some meats are loaded with hormones and antibiotics you don’t have the knowledge needed to be able to choose hormone and antibiotic-free meat. If you aren’t aware that the recommended amount of moderate intensity exercise is 150 minutes per week you might think the stairs you climb once a day is plenty to keep your heart healthy.

Make sense? You see, awareness is important in many aspects of life but specifically when it comes to health and wellness. You are the only person in charge of your health. Your doctor is simply there to help you but unless you take charge and become fully invested in your health, you’ll continue to have issues.

So, I’ll leave you with this. Become informed. Educate yourself. Stop ignoring signs and symptoms. Be proactive instead of reactive. Seek out the information needed to take you to healthier places.

You have one life. One chance on this beautiful planet. One opportunity to experience everything life has to offer. Become aware and take care of your body. Because in most cases, when it comes to health, regret equals illness…
